Norm DeVol - Bio

I have taught both classical and musical theatre style voice for more than 50 years and can offer singers of any age, with any vocal style preference, instruction to help improve their singing.

I graduated from San José State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance and have had a long and varied career in both teaching, accompanying and vocal performance.  Here are some highlights:

  • Private Voice Instructor – San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento and Salem since 1975.

  • Assistant Conductor – Masterworks Chorale, San Mateo, CA

  • Professional Member of San Francisco Opera Chorus

  • Chancel Choir Director St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Sacramento, CA

  • Choir Director/Organist/Pianist – Sunnyvale United Methodist Church and Morningside United Methodist Church

As a professional tenor soloist, I have sung with numerous organizations through the years—here are some of my favorite opera roles:

  • Gherman in Queen of Spades

  • Beppe in Il Pagliacci

  • King Kaspar in Amahl & the Night Visitors

  • The Creation—Haydn

  • Messiah—Handel

  • Requiem—Mozart

  • Symphony #9—Beethoven

  • The Seasons—Hayden
